Refractive and diffractive X-ray optical elements

چکیده
The planar microelectronics technology, involving lithography and highly anisotropic plasma etching techniques, allows manufacturing high quality refractive and diffractive lenses, which may be used in hard X-ray microprobe and microscopy applications. These silicon lenses are mechanically robust and can withstand high heat load of the white Xray beam at third generation synchrotron radiation sources. For the first time we designed and manufactured a new type of lenses: kinoform lenses and parabolic lenses with scaled reduction of curvature radii. The theoretical background for such type of lens features is presented. Focusing properties in the terms of focus spot and efficiency of all these lenses were tested at the ESW beamlines. Magnified imaging with planar lenses was realized. Some future developments are discussed.

Design and quality evaluation of micro-optical freeform beam shapers
Progress in micro-fabrication has enabled not only diffractive optical elements (DOE) but also complex freeform surfaces [1]. Transmissive optical elements can be mainly classified into refractive and diffractive. Ray-tracing techniques are sufficient to explain light propagation through and beyond refractive elements. On the other hand, since interferences are the basis of the diffractive doma...
متن کاملProgrammable diffractive lens for ophthalmic application
Pixelated liquid crystal displays have been widely used as spatial light modulators to implement programmable diffractive optical elements, particularly diffractive lenses. Many different applications of such components have been developed in information optics and optical processors that take advantage of their properties of great flexibility, easy and fast refreshment, and multiplexing capabi...
متن کاملRefractive and diffractive properties of planar micro-optical elements.
The refractive and the diffractive properties of planar micro-optical elements are investigated. The transition between purely refractive and purely diffractive planar microlenses is numerically simulated for the example of differently designed phase-matched Fresnel elements. Results obtained from numerical simulations and experiments show that the refractive and diffractive types exhibit a dis...
متن کاملX-ray interferometry with transmissive beam combiners for ultra-high angular resolution astronomy
Interferometry provides one of the possible routes to ultra-high angular resolution for X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy. Sub-micro-arc-second angular resolution, necessary to achieve objectives such as imaging the regions around the event horizon of a super-massive black hole at the center of an active galaxy, can be achieved if beams from parts of the incoming wavefront separated by 100s of mete...
متن کاملFabrication of Binary Diffractive Lens on Optical Films by Electron Beam Lithography
Two types of lenses can focus light: an optical lens using refraction phenomenon and a diffractive lens using diffraction phenomena. Table 1 shows the characteristics of each lens. The focal length of the diffractive lens is controlled by the structures of the lens, as mentioned in detail in Section 2.2. This suggests that the focal length of the diffractive lens is independent of refractive in...
